3 Ideal Options for a Vanishing Deck Rail

Often, homeowners building a new deck want their deck railing to be the star of the show and make a statement. They do so by mixing colors and materials, matching the railing to the trim of their home, or adding lighting and accessories. But there are many who just want the railing to disappear so their beautiful view can take center-stage. If you want to design a rail that maximizes your view, here are a few options:

  1. Go for glass balusters. Using clear glass as a railing infill provides the optimal view from your deck. Deckorators® glass balusters are made of durable 5/16” tempered safety glass, making them extremely safe and kid-friendly as well as beautiful. They also are straightforward to install – either face-mount them to 2x4 rails or use our easy-to-use connectors.

  2. Choose sleek aluminum balusters. Concerned about kid-sized handprints or dog-sized snout-prints on glass balusters? A more appropriate infill option for you is aluminum balusters. Deckorators 3/4" round Classic balusters are less obtrusive than standard 2x2 wood balusters or thick composite balusters, and are covered with a durable, low-maintenance powder-coating.

  3. Opt for darker colors. Darker colors tend to blend in the background, lighter colors are more likely to stand out. This tip is helpful whether you are installing aluminum balusters on a wood rail, or installing a complete railing system made from a material other than wood. Deckorators offers a co-extruded composite system and an aluminum system with multiple color options including black and bronze.
