MBA Deck & Fence Uniqueness in Seattle
Matthew Aimonetti describes himself as “picky” and serves a clientele with discriminating tastes. For the owner of Seattle’s MBA Deck & Fence, ordinary products and designs won’t do. See how the Deckorators® Certified Pro approached a challenging upscale deck project in nearby Mercer Island.

Aimonetti has amassed more than 25 years of experience in the construction industry, primarily in deck building. He values true product innovation and craftsmanship when helping his highly selective customers design new outdoor living spaces. In the winter of 2016, Aimonetti faced three significant challenges while planning a Mercer Island customer’s deck renovation project. For each challenge, Deckorators offered the right product to meet both Aimonetti’s high professional standards and the homeowner’s lofty expectations.

Decking Overcomes Old Frame
MBA Deck & Fence was tasked with tearing off the old deck and installing new composite decking over the existing frame. Aimonetti recommended Deckorators Heritage decking and its industry-leading 25-year structural, 25-year stain-and-fade and 25-year removal-and-replacement warranty.

“We really like to use Deckorators decking for re-cover applications because it’s a stiffer board than competitors offer and won’t telegraph flaws with the existing frame,” says Aimonetti, who has worked with multiple brands of decking. “Plus, there’s no product on the market that has anything near the removal-and-replacement warranty Deckorators has. It instills confidence in the customer.”

Railing Complements Home
Aimonetti needed a railing type that was appropriate for the unique style of home. He leveraged the vast Deckorators selection and chose CXT Pro Contemporary rail and Estate aluminum balusters with Classic Designer baluster connectors.

“We have a discriminating clientele, and I’m picky about how things look,” Aimonetti says. “We have an expectation to not see clunky, extraneous fasteners or fittings. Unlike competing products, Deckorators CXT Pro railing doesn’t have any visible fasteners. That’s a really, really big deal for me.”

Customization Resolves Stairway Situation
The existing frame didn’t allow for a wide enough stairway, so Aimonetti designed a custom screen to be built down one side of the stair rail, and a planter box to border adjacent landscaping. Both the planter box and screen were built with Deckorators decking, adding a long-lasting custom touch to a beautiful deck.

“This was an affluent client that had a pretty high bar,” Aimonetti says. “They really liked the screen and planter. They felt the railing was perfect. They said emphatically that the railing really matched and was appropriate for the style of their home. Overall, they were very pleased with the outcome and appearance of the deck.”

Aimonetti became a Deckorators Certified Pro last year to supplement his rich industry background with Deckorators resources and training. He says product samples provided by Deckorators were the main tool he used when selling the project, which wrapped up in February.

“One of the main ways we sell our jobs is by showing that our knowledge is thorough, detailed and superior to that of other presenters,” Aimonetti says. “Joining the Deckorators Certified Pro program was part of our ongoing effort to become more knowledgeable and distinguish ourselves from our competitors.”
