Remodeler Creates Heaven with DeckExpo Prize

Elliott Pike was returning to his hotel room from Remodeling Show/DeckExpo/JLC Live 2014 when he received a call from an unfamiliar number. The Alabama builder/remodeler couldn’t believe the mystery caller’s words: Pike had won $15,000 worth of Deckorators® products in a random drawing at DeckExpo. “I thought it was a joke,” he says. We recently caught up with Pike to see how he used that serious prize package.

Before the surprising call ended, Pike knew how he would spend his winnings. The two-tier wooden deck at Pike’s Birmingham home was aging and in dire need of replacement.

“It was perfect timing to win the deck package,” said Pike, managing member of Birmingham-based ELM Construction LLC, the 2014 Home Builders Association of Alabama Remodeler of the Year.

ELM Construction LLC regularly tackles outdoor living projects, but Pike had not worked with our products. He was pleased to learn that we're a one-stop source for deck-building needs, and selected the following Deckorators components for the renovation:

Pike found the composite decking easy to work with, and gained peace of mind from our 25-year structural, stain-and-fade, and removal-and-replacement warranty. He liked the weathered look and enhanced grain pattern of the Heritage boards.

“The decking is durable, and I could carry a 16-foot board without trouble,” Pike said. “It was easy to install, and unlike other composites we’ve used it has realistic embossing that makes it look natural. It’s priced competitively, and the warranty is second-to-none.”

“Nobody comes close to offering the kind of options Deckorators does for railings and accessories,” Pike added.

Pike mounted a TV above the deck and surrounded it with new deck furniture and cooking devices, creating a unique outdoor oasis for his family.

“The new deck really, truly is our second living room,” Pike said on a Friday in mid-October. “The weather in Alabama is perfect right now. Tomorrow, the Auburn football team starts playing at 11 o’clock and Alabama kicks off at 2:30. I’ll be out on the deck most of the day. It’s going to be heaven for us.”
