The goal of every outdoor living space is to help extend your time outside. To get the most out of your deck, you may want to get out of the sun while relaxing or limit exposure to your neighbors. We have several sun-shielding and deck privacy ideas to help you enjoy your living space from sunup to sundown.
New Kind of Sun Screen
Lattice can be used for more than just deck skirts. It’s a versatile product used as deck privacy screens to create shaded areas in gazebos or pergolas. You can even use it for smaller, unique projects like concealing unsightly air conditioning units. If the area is exposed to direct sunlight, then make sure the lattice
you choose is UV-stabilized for fade resistance.

Moving On Up
If you want to enjoy your deck at a certain time but find it’s in direct sun you wish to avoid, consider using deck boards to shield it. Look for deck boards with a 4” width for a unique, visually appealing appearance. You could also use this trick to provide an eye-appealing cover if your deck is next to a neighbor, air conditioner unit or compost pile.

Inside Function, Outside Fun
Extend your living space with the addition of an outdoor kitchen to create the perfect barbeque grill-out and entertainment spot. With the new addition, you can get creative with the space and add a rooftop enclosure with a ceiling fan to circulate the air. Plus, the enclosure will have the added benefit of shielding the sun!

Feeling Shady
Shade sails and large umbrellas are the perfect way to create shaded space without committing to major renovations. Installing posts to the outer areas of your deck calls for easy installation.

Completely Covered
A pergola creates a sun-protected area for entertainment while creating a private lounge space. Get crafty and hang linens to increase shade or lights for a nighttime entertainment space! To increase pergola privacy, add lattice panels to the sides to enclose the open spaces.
